Creating Community Connections Through Classic Vehicles
The Le Fleur’s & Friends of CHaT Parks Classic Vehicle Show demonstrated how a community event can deliver far more than an enjoyable day out. It brought people together, celebrated local heritage, encouraged the use of community green spaces and generated social value for visitors, volunteers and the wider community.

A Work Rest or Play roving reporter attended the event, awarding it a five-star review after experiencing a well-organised, welcoming and engaging day. Originally attending to see the iconic Mercedes Gullwing SL, they also enjoyed the impressive variety of classic vehicles on display and the opportunity to meet enthusiasts willing to share the stories behind their vehicles.
Social Value Delivered
The event created social value in several ways:
Strengthening community connections by bringing together residents, families, vehicle owners and local organisations in a friendly and inclusive environment.

Encouraging volunteering, with Friends of CHaT Parks demonstrating the value that volunteers bring to maintaining and promoting local parks and organising community events.
Increasing use of green spaces, encouraging more people to discover and enjoy CHaT Parks, supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.
Supporting community pride, showcasing local parks as thriving community assets and highlighting the positive work taking place within them.
Promoting local heritage, celebrating classic vehicles and preserving stories that connect generations.
Boosting the local economy, with visitors supporting local traders and businesses while attending the event.
Creating positive publicity, extending the event’s reach through Work Rest or Play’s independent coverage and helping inspire future attendance.

Community Impact
Events such as this demonstrate that social value is created through shared experiences as much as financial investment. Every visitor, volunteer, exhibitor and organiser contributed towards building stronger community relationships, reducing social isolation and encouraging people to become more involved in local activities.
For Friends of CHaT Parks, the event showcased the organisation’s ongoing commitment to creating vibrant, welcoming parks that benefit everyone. It also highlighted how partnerships with local businesses, volunteers and community groups can transform public spaces into places where people want to meet, learn and celebrate together.
This event is an excellent example of how community-led initiatives generate lasting social value by creating opportunities for connection, wellbeing, volunteering, civic pride and community engagement—benefits that continue long after the event itself.
