Friends of Marsden Library Author Event: An Evening with Sally O’Reilly
Shortlisted for the World of Books’ Sustainable Story Award 2026.
A hagtale, a dark fable, a story told around winter’s fires and known to Shakespeare but never written down. Until now.
In the eleventh century, a feral child is taken in by three witches after the wolves who cared for her are slaughtered by hunters. Raised in the forests amongst nature and magic, she is soon sent to live in a Scottish castle, where she falls under the spell of the cruel, ambitious Lord Macbeth.

Marsden Walkers are Welcome
On Saturday 12th September members of Marsden Walkers are Welcome committee set out on an arduous 16 mile hike around the hills and moorland surrounding Marsden; a route designed to incorporate a number of the group’s existing self-guided routes.
The day dawned fair, however, the skies darkened and the heavens opened just as the group arrived on Slaithwaite Moor and they were subjected to a great Pennine drenching!
Fortified and cheered by hot soup, and later by cake, delivered en-route by supporters, the group arrived back into the village after seven hours of up-hill and down-dale adventures.
The sponsored walk raised £788 in total, half of which Marsden WaW donated to local charity Experience Community, a not-for-profit that helps physically disabled people enjoy the benefits of outdoor and green spaces, offering a range of activities, from rambling and cycling to conservation and the arts.
