Earlier this month Denby Dale District Lions Club held their annual Scarecrow Trail event which has become one of their most popular and high-profile fundraising events of the year.

With this years theme of ‘Animal Adventures’ people were giving lots of scope to be inventive with their scarecrows and the result was a massive 35 entries which is the highest number since before Covid!

Despite the showery weather over the weekend people came from far and wide to follow the trail and it was fantastic to see so many people and particularly young families around the village trying to spot the scarecrows and decide on their favourite.

The trail started outside the White Hart where Trail maps and raffle tickets were on sale.

A BBQ, face-painting and kid’s tombola were also on offer as well as live music throughout the day.

It truly was a great event with funds raised smashing last year’s total by some margin!!

The Club would like to thank the White Hart for hosting the event once again, the 35 households who embraced the theme and produced some amazing scarecrows, the local businesses who sponsored the event particularly the main sponsor Butchers Estate Agents, the businesses and individuals who donated raffle prizes, members of the Lions Club who worked tirelessly to put the event on particularly Lions Luke, Drew and Lara and last but not least you the public who came out to support us once again! We couldn’t do it without you.

A special mention should also be given to Paula Greenwood who raised over £200 selling her painted-stones as part of her scarecrow and also young Frankie Daley who set up a lemonade stall in his garden and raised a magnificent £54! A young Lion in the making!!

If you missed the event, photos of the scarecrows can be seen on Denby Dale District Lions’ Facebook Page, as well as a short video of the winning Elephant scarecrow as chosen by you the public.

All profits go to local good causes and Lions chosen charities.

Thanks again for your support!!
