Craft lovers are invited to join a relaxed yarn crawl around Huddersfield town centre on Saturday 17 October, bringing together creativity, community and a good beverage.

Following the huge success of International Knit in Public Day in June, local crafters Sian Hughes from Kerfuffle Arts and Crafts and Kim Searle from Thread Republic/Darn It!
Workshops are joining forces once again for a second yarn crawl, starting at 10:30am.

Open to everyone, the event invites people to bring along an easy-to-transport knitting, crochet or other crafting project and enjoy a sociable tour of the town’s cafés and pubs. Participants are also encouraged to wear garments they’ve made themselves.
The day will begin with a hearty breakfast at Byram’s Cafe in Byram Arcade, with Crafty Praxis Yarn Shop conveniently located next door for anyone needing to stock up on supplies.
The group will then head to the Head of Steam at Huddersfield railway station, followed by the Sportsman, known for its real ales, before finishing at Vox on Wood Street. Those who prefer tea or coffee can also join the group at Coffee Evolution, with outdoor space between the final stops providing an opportunity to mingle if the weather allows.
The first yarn crawl attracted more than 60 attendees throughout the day, with people travelling from as far afield as Manchester and Wakefield. Organisers were delighted by the response, with participants reporting how uplifted they felt and sharing stories of new friendships made along the way.
The aim is to build on that success, creating an inclusive space where people can connect through a shared love of crafts, conversation and refreshments.

Organisers hope the event will support wellbeing by bringing people together, helping to tackle isolation and creating opportunities to make new friends in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

Look out for a brightly coloured bunch making their way around Huddersfield town centre! Participants are encouraged to knit, crochet or craft a little flag to carry with them, making it easier to spot fellow crafters and creating a colourful spectacle as the group moves between venues.
For those unable to attend the yarn crawl, Thread Republic also runs three regular monthly stitch socials: Huddersfield Stitch Social, Sew Queer, a stitch social for the queer community, and Holmfirth Stitch Social.
Whether you’re an experienced knitter, a crochet enthusiast or simply curious about crafting, the yarn crawl offers a chance to meet like-minded people, explore local venues and enjoy a creative day out.
