Huddersfield station closed for improvement works
Saturday 30 August – Sunday 28 September 2025
Huddersfield station will be closed for 30 days while major works take place as part of the TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU). These improvements include longer platforms, track and signalling upgrades, and essential repairs to the viaduct.
What this means for Penistone Line passengers
Penistone Line services will be affected by Huddersfield’s closure. During this time, no trains will run in or out of Huddersfield station. Rail replacement buses will run to and from Huddersfield, while Penistone Line train services will be revised. Below is a breakdown and timeline of how the rail replacement bus services will run:
30th August – 7th September
Trains will run between Penistone and Sheffield only.
A replacement bus will run between Huddersfield and Penistone, stopping at all stations, to connect with trains towards Sheffield.
A direct replacement bus will also run between Huddersfield and Barnsley (non-stop).
8th – 26th September
Trains will run between Berry Brow and Sheffield only, with revised departure times.
A replacement bus will run between Huddersfield and Berry Brow, stopping at Lockwood, to connect with trains towards Sheffield.
27th – 28th September
Trains will run between Penistone and Sheffield only.
A replacement bus will run between Huddersfield and Penistone, stopping at all stations, to connect with trains towards Sheffield.
A direct replacement bus will also run between Huddersfield and Barnsley (non-stop).
This will affect Penistone Line services during our Guided Walks on 30th August, 6th September, and 20th September
