After sixty years of marriage, settled into their Yorkshire retirement village, Jack and Florence have turned bickering into an art form. They are getting along just fine, with the support of their cousin and the hilarious interventions from their friend the locals know as ‘Rhubarb Eddie’….but will their anxious son, bouncing between London and LA, and their snobby daughter, eyeing a move to Australia, leave them to live out their days in peace?
Richard Bean draws on his own East Yorkshire roots for a play full of loving, bitter exchanges between a couple with seventy years marriage under their belt. It is the kind of show that makes you laugh out loud, squirm in familiarity of the situations they find themselves in, and perhaps even wipe away a tear or two.
A warm blend of Northern grit and real heart that tackles memory, ageing and all things family with a smile and a laugh. Anyone who has watched their own parents grow older will find something and someone to recognise here.
