West Yorkshire teenager Iris Danbury delivers a bold, joyful declaration of self-worth, at a time when young people need it most – released on 26th June across all major streaming platforms.

Iris’s debut single is a warm, witty and defiantly upbeat anthem about refusing to let other people’s opinions define who you are, and it couldn’t have come at a better moment.
Written by Bob Cywinski, with the assistance from local girl Iris, is a song drawn directly from the experiences of many young people.
“I Don’t Care” tells the time old tale of a young person who is misunderstood and feels alone in a world where inclusion and acceptance can be the biggest currency.
It’s a song about the gap between who the world thinks you are and who you are authentically, and it speaks directly to millions of young people navigating that same pressure every single day.

Iris said “I think this song is so important right now because we wanted to say something to every young person who feels like they don’t fit in. Social media makes it so easy to feel like everyone else has it figured out and you’re the only one who doesn’t. But what you see isn’t real. And the things that make you different are the things that make you brilliant.”
Beneath its bouncy, instantly catchy and singable pop surface, “I Don’t Care” carries a message with real depth. Its chorus “I don’t care what people think, I don’t care what people say, if I want I’ll dye my hair pink, but I won’t play the games you play” is both a declaration of independence and permission to be exactly who you are.
The track unfolds like a revelation of current youth culture, one where being one thing in the public eye and yourself elsewhere is now the norm. It tells the tale of a girl in the library who looks like she’s reading but is secretly screaming to heavy metal in her head. She’s the one with “not so perfect curls” who isn’t part of the popular crowd and doesn’t fit in easily, but who, when the door closes and she’s in her bedroom, is absolutely, completely alive.
In an era when anxiety among young people is at record levels and the pressure to perform a perfect life online has never been greater, “I Don’t Care” is a three minute permission slip to stop comparing and just start being.
Iris Danbury is thirteen years old and from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. She has been performing since the age of five, when she began entering singing competitions and performing with local drama clubs.

Since then, she has busked in town centres, performed with local youth theatre groups, and built a reputation as one of the most naturally gifted young performers in her region. On stage she is transformed, electric, expressive and completely in her element. Off stage, she is, by her own admission, a relatively quiet student at school, the mediator, the friend, the one who thinks about others before herself.
Which, of course, is exactly what makes her the perfect person to share this song.
Wider audiences may already recognise Iris from television. In 2019, she appeared in the much loved McDonald’s Christmas advert “Ellie & Archie”, where she was turned from animation to real life, and most recently featured in the Pure Gym campaign for 2025/26. She has also had small roles in TV & Film over the last 9 years.
“I Don’t Care” is her first original release, recorded at Vibrations Studio in her hometown and she is already in the process of recording single number two with nine original songs in the pipeline.
