Headingley is one of the most vibrant and well-known neighbourhoods in Leeds, located just a couple of miles north of the city centre.
Once a rural village, it grew into a popular suburb during the Victorian expansion of Leeds and today is known for its lively atmosphere, historic streets and strong sporting heritage. Headingley Stadium has helped put the area on the international map, hosting world-class cricket and rugby events, while the surrounding streets are filled with independent shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
With large student populations from nearby universities, plenty of green spaces such as Beckett Park, and excellent transport links into the city, Headingley offers a unique mix of work, relaxation and entertainment.
We’re here to amplify local voices and events, so if you’d like to suggest updates, submit news articles, or add events to our calendar, we’d love to include your contribution.
Whether you’re running a business, charity, community group or creative venture, our tailored promotion packages offer a great way to highlight your services, products, and activities to a wider local audience.
Since rebranding to Work Rest or Play in Summer 2025, we’ve been expanding beyond the HD8 postcode area to connect with and support communities across West and South Yorkshire. As part of that journey, we’re creating a growing collection of Discover articles, shining a spotlight on the villages, towns and cities we now cover. Each article celebrates what makes that location unique, from local highlights and hidden gems to community spirit and places to explore.
